And as consumers' resistance to screw caps or romantic ties to cork have died down some, screw caps seem to have strengthened their footing. Winemakers say they are even seeing some consumers ask for screw caps for ease of use.
When I was growing up, most fishing rods had cork grips. With the exception of fly rods, we see cork replaced by other materials now much of the time. I haven't seen a single fly rod with substitute materials though. To make the grips on fly rods, cork rings are glued together and then formed to shape on the rod.
